FAQs
Is An Organic Produce Free Of Pesticides?
An organic certified produce means that the farm/field was certified to follow organic production standards. Organic insecticides and fungicides can be used and some of them are pretty toxic. Chemicals and fertilizers have to be officially approved to be used in organic production (see https://www.omri.org/omri-lists), non-GMO non-treated seed have to be used. Records of production practices, chemicals, seeds, and materials have to be kept and a yearly farm visit and certification takes place. It is expensive and time consuming.
Is An Organic Farm Always Sustainable?
Not necessarily, some organic farms do not take care of soil or environment either. So know your farmer!
